Resilience Week 1
Resilience there are two kinds: Systemic what you are born with, you built through your life. Processive is what you bring to the fight that you don’t even know yet what will come, but through this struggle will come strength.
Dr Rahul Jandial
This month we will explore resilience and what four high achievers in their field believe this attribute is and how it applies to our life. Rahul Jandial, M.D., Ph.D. is an American, dual-trained brain surgeon, and neuroscientist. Jandial is an associate professor with expertise in the surgical treatment of cancers of the nervous system. His quote tells us that we can increase our resilience, we can deploy it when we need it, and in the process continue to improve. He also explains that when we are faced with the most devastating of challenges, death of a loved one, a serious health diagnosis, or a natural disaster that it is ok to not be doing well. He says we should not feel bad about this and think we lack resilience. We give ourselves the grace and time to find that processive resilience. He believes we think of our lives as seasons, that we carry resilience, but we can cultivate it too.
When did you practice processive resilience? Each person has a story of how they came back from adversity, how they cultivated resilience. What is yours? Remind yourself of how you got through that difficult time. Then the next time a challenge occurs, remind yourself how you were resilient in the past.
