Hurrying Week 4

“Slow down, you're doing fine, you can't be everything you wanna be before your time.”

Billy Joel, lyrics from 'Vienna'

Does Billy Joel's famous lyrics sound like you in your life? Or does this: Always in a rush, always feeling behind, rapid talking, walking, rapid driving, irritation, especially when you’re delayed, or you feel others aren’t moving quickly enough, tendency to interrupt others. Sounds stressful just reading it, never mind living it. I see people becoming so frustrated with the simplest things, lines in all the grocery checkouts, traffic backed up at a light, a long wait at the doctor. Are these really a crisis situation? Perhaps you have overscheduled yourself or not left enough time for an appointment because of another obligation, occasionally. It happens, but consistently living in this state of hurry is extremely hard on your health, and your disposition, never mind your relationships.

It comes down to this, can we change, give ourselves a little more time between events or commitments?  As we say in the Elevation Principles, if it’s not a priority you don’t make the time for it. Maybe this final week of March as Spring arrives you give yourself 10 extra minutes, being ahead of schedule for a change. Then reward yourself with sitting and listening to a favorite song you haven’t played in a while. Or opening a book and reading for 5 minutes. Or just look at nature, that’s a reward.

Happy not hurrying week.
